Beyond Today: How to Honor Our Heroes 365 Days a Year
May 26, 2025
Hey everyone,
Today is Memorial Day.
As I'm writing this, my coffee's getting cold because I keep stopping to think about what this day really means. It's not about the BBQs or the unofficial start of summer. It's about the empty chairs at dinner tables across America. It's about the heroes who gave everything so we could have everything.
And while today we pause to remember, I've been asking myself: What about tomorrow? What about next Tuesday? What about November 15th when nobody's posting American flags on social media?
Your Year-Round Honor System: 12 Months of Making a Difference
Here's what I'm committing to this year, and I invite you to join me:
January: The Fresh Start Fund
Start the year by identifying one veteran family in your sphere. Offer to review their mortgage to see if they could benefit from recent rate changes. No strings attached. Just looking out for those who looked out for us.
February: The Love Letter Project
Send handwritten Valentine's cards to Gold Star families in your community. Not selling anything. Just saying, "Your loved one's sacrifice is remembered."
March: Spring Cleaning for Heroes
Organize a spring cleaning day for elderly veterans in your area. Gutter cleaning, yard work, simple repairs. Bring your sphere along—make it a community event.
April: The Education Initiative
Host a free "VA Loan Myths vs. Reality" workshop. Invite local lenders who specialize in VA loans. Feed people. Educate them. Don't pitch them.
May: The Memory Project
Create a digital memorial on your website. Let families submit photos and stories of fallen heroes from your community. Keep it up year-round.
June: PCS Season Support
Summer is military moving season. Create a "Military Family Relocation Guide" for your area. Include everything from schools to local veterans' resources. Give it away freely.
July: Independence Day Integrity
On July 4th, instead of "Happy 4th!" posts, share stories of what freedom means to local veterans. Let their voices be heard.
August: Back-to-School for Military Kids
Partner with local schools to create care packages for military children. Include school supplies and a note of encouragement. These kids serve too.
September: The Patriot Day Partnership
On 9/11, organize a community service project. Clean up a veterans' memorial. Volunteer at the VA. Show up with your hands, not your business cards.
October: Homes for Heroes Highlight
Feature a different veteran-owned business each week on your social media. Use your platform to support their American dream.
November: The Gratitude Campaign
Don't just say "Thank you for your service." Ask veterans, "How can I serve YOU?" Then actually do what they tell you.
December: The Holiday Hero Project
Adopt military families for the holidays. But here's the twist—find out what they actually need. Sometimes it's not presents. Sometimes it's just someone to help hang Christmas lights while dad's deployed.
The Compound Effect of Consistent Care
Here's what happens when you commit to year-round support:
- You become known as the agent who actually cares—not just on holidays
- Your sphere expands naturally through service projects
- Referrals come from unexpected places (Linda has sent me three clients)
- Your business grows because your heart grows first
Today's Challenge: Pick Your One Thing
I know you can't do all 12 things. But you can do one thing. Today, on Memorial Day, choose your one thing:
- Which month will you commit to?
- Which project speaks to your heart?
- Which action will you take tomorrow?
Write it down. Tell someone. Better yet, tell me in the comments. Let's hold each other accountable to honoring our heroes beyond today.
The Real Estate Revolution We Need
Imagine if every agent reading this committed to just one month of service. That's thousands of military families supported. Thousands of veterans honored. Thousands of communities strengthened.
We have the platform. We have the connections. We have the ability to make "Thank you for your service" more than words.
Our heroes didn't serve just on holidays. Neither should we.
A Personal Promise
To every Gold Star family, every veteran, every active-duty service member reading this: Your sacrifice is not forgotten on the ordinary days. Not by me. Not by this community of agents who understand that homes are more than houses—they're the freedom you fought to protect.
Today we remember. Tomorrow we act. And every day after that, we honor through service.
What's your one thing? Let's start a movement that lasts all year long.
To those who gave all, we remember always. To those who still serve, we stand ready to serve you.
Share your commitment below. Let's create a year-round honor system that actually makes a difference. πΊπΈ
